9TH LIFE RESCUE & SANCTUARY’S
NEEDS:
We are a no-kill sanctuary and the cats that remain live out their life here because they cannot be adopted out – due to illness or injury. Donations are always needed and appreciated at our shelter, so we decided to make this list of items that the donations go towards.
MONTHLY NEEDS:
Vet bills. These are never foreseeable. The only vet bills we know about ahead of time are the normal vet visits for shots, etc. The rest of the vet bills are for emergencies and medications, etc.
Dry cat food, dry dog food, soft cat food, soft dog food. We go through one 40-lb. bag of dog food a month, but dry cat foodtakes at least 10 large bags monthly (name-brand only). The cats and dogs get soft food as a treat once or twice a month, plus other treats, such as dog biscuits, cat treats, etc. That is usually 3-4 cases of soft cat food per month (12 in a case).
Treats, toys, beds, etc. – We buy these on sale or at dollar stores only. These are not a necessity, so we purchase them only when we can.
Puppy pads, paper towels, etc. – We buy these in bulk to last the month.
Enzyme cleaner – We go through a specialty company called “SCOE 10X” (online only) which supplies many animal shelters and humane societies. Fortunately, this is inexpensive (compared to other brands) and costs around $30.00 per month.
Spaying/neutering – This is a one-time expense for each new rescue, however, we never know how many rescues we may get. Female cats generally cost over $100 to fix and male cats are somewhere around $80. WE DO NOT DECLAW OUR CATS!!
YEARLY NEEDS:
The dogs need their combo shots, Rabies shots and Lyme’s shots. The Lyme’s shots are the only ones that have to be given out yearly. The others are every 2-3 years only.
Dog licenses – These are purchased through our City and are only $3.00 per dog (if fixed) for the year.
Combo shots for the cats – This one costs approximately $300-$400 for the shots for all of the cats, however, these typically last 3 years.
Upkeep/maintenance of home.
